On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, AllTimely was introduced to students and staff, taking the place of West Success.
West success was a small class remediation period after 1st block and before 2nd block where depending on the day of the week students would go to their different blocks. Students could go to different rooms with teacher permission but otherwise had no control of where they were going.
When West Success was first stopped, the 37 minutes were simply added to first block. With the introduction of AllTimely, those 37 minutes were allocated for students to participate in a variety of different activities.
Students must sign up for their chosen activity on the AllTimely app or website, preferably a week in advance to ensure they have plenty of options. AllTimely allows for students to choose activities for up to two weeks from the current day.
When it comes to choosing an activity the day of, students have to select an option before 7:30 am that school day or they will be randomly assigned an activity.
Some of the common activities offered by teachers include watching movies, study hall and tutor sessions, nap time, and walking around campus.
“I am so excited that WJHS is now offering choices to students about how they want/need to spend their time. Sure, sometimes teachers will pull students into remediation – but for the most part, students get to choose where they go – a rare experience for a WJHS student. I added Power Nap to my calendar every Monday because as a mom of 3, I know that teenagers are not wired for mornings and that honestly they are all just tired and need a chance to breathe.”- Shannon Ferguson
While Wednesdays are still used for clubs with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday schedule, clubs are able to meet more frequently with the addition of AllTimely. This also means that students no longer have to sit in their homerooms or first blocks if they don’t have a club meeting that Wednesday.
Along with the activities, Teachers are required to offer remediation for their classes several times a week. Students can be locked into remediation by their teachers, though this typically only happens when they have missing assignments or need assistance.
“I think Alltimely is a fun and creative way to get students involved in new activities that are outside of their comfort zone. I have enjoyed having the flexibility to pull students in who need one on one remediation, as well as students in large group settings for Dr G. Autopsy and Yoga. My students and I really enjoy it and look forward to it every day.” – Sharon Clark
AllTimely is a huge difference from West Success, giving both teachers and students new opportunities. Students can visit areas and teachers they wouldn’t usually get to see while teachers can branch out and offer different skills or hobbies to students, such as crochet or taking care of fish tanks.
“With AllTimely, teachers create activities for their flex time. They choose the type of activity such as club, study hall, coach class, etc.” – AllTimely website
