The Wildcats Post

About

The Wildcats Post is an online news publication of the WJ Student Media Club at West Johnston High School. The members and leadership of the Club believe in being a voice for all students. The Club has scheduled meetings throughout the school year. One of the 2023-2024 goals of the Club was to launch an online news publication that would share news and information for students and staff. Currently, the publication is scheduled to produce monthly editions throughout the school year. The publication is funded through yearbook sales.

Additionally, content is also attributed from students in the Introduction to Journalism courses.

  • The Wildcats Post staff strives to provide informative, important, interesting, factual and fair coverage of individuals and events within the school and the Benson community and across Johnston County. Our opinion pages serve as the voices of the online publication staff members and the community they are serving.
  • The views shared by The Wildcats Post do not represent the opinions or views of the faculty, staff or administration, the Johnston County School Board or its administration.
  • Unsigned commentaries represent the views of The Wildcats Post staff, while signed commentaries and columns are the opinion of the reporters.
  • Readers are encouraged to write letters to the editors on matters of interest. They can be delivered to Room 205 or mailed to West Johnston High School. Letters must be signed or anonymity may be granted if it is deemed necessary. The Wildcats Post staff reserves the right to edit as necessary.

The Prowler and The Wildcats Post are student-run publications and advised by Shirley W. Kelly who oversees the yearbook and online staffs. Overall, WJ Student Media has a long award winning history.

The Prowler  yearbook is the historical record-keeper for West.  The staff goals are to record and cover events as they happen. The yearbook staff focuses on producing a book with full coverage. The book is distributed after production in May and before the end of the current school year.

The Prowler and The Wildcats Post staffs support each other and provide coverage to both publications. Photographers and reporters attend school events to capture images and stories of students just being students, they go beyond the prowl!

All staffs operate out of Room 205.
